
MANILA – D’Angelo Russell scored a go-ahead basket as the Minnesota Timberwolves rallied to trounce the Utah Jazz, 105-104, on Monday night at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
After seeing its 102-97 advantage turned to a 104-103 deficit via four straight points by Mike Conley of Utah Jazz, Russel’s layup with five seconds left snatched the lead from Utah.
Minnesota has completed its stunning win – its second over Utah after beating them two nights ago – with Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio’s defensive stop on Conley.
Russell fired a double-double 27 points and 12 assists, and Karl-Anthony Towns had 21 points and 12 rebounds as the Timberwolves improved to an 18-44 win-loss slate.
Anthony Edwards and Juancho Hernangomez finished with 14 markers apiece and Naz Reid added 13 points for the Timberwolves, which won four of its last six games.
Conley tallied 26 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists while Rudy Gobert, Georges Niang, and Jordan Clarkson contributed 18, 14, and 13, respectively, for the Jazz (44-17).
Meanwhile, Phoenix Suns (43-18) snapped its losing skid by halting the streaking New York Knicks (34-28), 118-110. Devin Booker top-scored with 33 points for the Suns.
San Antonio Spurs (31-29) stopped Washington Wizards’ (27-34) eight-game winning streak with a 146-143 overtime escape. Demar DeRozan ended with 37 points and 10 rebounds for the Spurs.
Philadelphia 76ers (40-21) snapped its four-game losing skid with a 121-90 domination over the slumping Oklahoma City Thunder (20-41) to remain at the second spot in the East.
In other results, Los Angeles Lakers take down Orlando Magic, 114-103; Detroit Pistons upsets Atlanta Hawks, 100-86; Toronto Raptors defeated Cleveland Cavaliers, 112-96; New Orleans Pelicans edged Los Angeles Clippers, 120-103; and Chicago Bulls prevailed over Miami Heat, 110-102.
