Sagay City mayor warns city gov’t workers against illegal drug use

BACOLOD City – Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva of Sagay City, Negros Occidental has issued a stern warning to city government employees allegedly involved in illegal drug use, saying they will face immediate action.

Speaking during his first flag-raising ceremony as the newly elected local chief executive on July 7 at the Sagay City Government Center, Cueva said, “Names have already reached my office,” underscoring that public trust depends on a drug-free and professional workforce.

He urged those involved to stop now, reminding all government personnel that “our service to Sagaynons must be clean — in both performance and character.”

During the same gathering, Cueva also introduced former councilor Rodnel Delos Reyes as the new city administrator. Outgoing administrator, Atty. Ryan Bonghanoy, will now focus on leading the City Economic Enterprise Management Office, a key position aimed at improving local revenue generation and public service delivery.

Cueva pledged to personally engage with employees at all levels, saying, “Good governance is everyone’s job, not just the officials’.”

The mayor also shared feedback from a recent youth leadership camp, where participants praised the city’s peace, cleanliness, and progress, but noted inconsistencies in frontline courtesy.

“Even a few negative encounters can overshadow our achievements,” he cautioned. “Do your job, do it well, and do it with a smile.”/PN
