NEGROS OCCIDENTAL – San Carlos City recently received a P2.3 million farm tractor from the Department of Agriculture.
According to San Carlos City Agriculturist Devitt Dollosa, the farm tractor is part of the DA Corn program as part of the Agri-Pinoy Program.
“Farming is much easier using a farm tractor compared to manual farming. It is faster for the farmer to prepare the soil, bigger areas can be done and more products can be planted, resulting to bigger income,” Dollosa said.
This is the second tractor received by San Carlos City Agriculture Office from the national government, a press release from San Carlos City Information Office said.
Each unit cost P2.3 million, but the cost is divided between the national government, which shoulders P2,070,000.00 of the total amount, while the local government of San Carlos City pays for the remaining P230,000.00.
Agricultural Technologist Prudencio “Tedon” Bayawa, Jr. said local farmers interested to rent the equipment will be charged P600.00 per hour and P52.00 for travel time per kilometer.
Bayawa added the farmer will only pay one travel time, should he use it to two or more days.
Agri-Pinoy is a program of the DA that incorporates principles and practices that optimize the development of Philippine resources, natural and human, to achieve national goals in agriculture and fisheries. (PIA)
