ILOILO – A Land Bank of the Philippines official was found dead on Wednesday, Dec. 7 in Sara town.

What killed the 44-year-old Lester Gonzalvez, branch manager of Land Bank-Sara, remains a mystery to the police.

They said they cannot know for sure until the body is autopsied.

His staffers found Gonzalvez around 7 a.m. on the floor, near the bed in a room he was renting in the Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College – Sara’s Mini Hotel, said Senior Inspector Ronie Brillo, municipal police chief.

“His staffers knocked on the door but no one responded, so they got themselves in. That’s when they found the manager,” Brillo said in Hiligaynon.

He dismissed foul play. “Our investigation showed there was no sign of forced entry,” said Brillo. “His (Gonzalvez) belongings were still there. No blood or scratches were found on the body.”

An occupant of a room next to Gonzalvez’s told the police they did not notice or hear anything unusual on Tuesday evening.

A college security guard last saw Gonzalvez, a resident of St. Joseph Subdivision, Pavia town, around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Gonzalvez had a medical checkup on Tuesday, Brillo said, citing investigation. “He may have been feeling ill.”

Brillo recommended to the bank manager’s family to have the body autopsied./PN
