MANILA – The Philippines had a rough start in the 30th Southeast Asian Games polo tournament following a close 8.5-8 defeat in the hands of Brunei at the Inigo Zobel Polo Facility in Calatagan, Batangas.
Led by 1-Pacman party-list’s Cong. Mikee Romero, the Philippine polo team fell short of taking home the opening day victory on Sunday with Prince Bahar sealing the victory with a penalty.
The polo squad was the first Philippine team to see action in the biennial meet which came six days before the formal opening ceremony on Nov. 30 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan province.
The Philippine polo team will try to bounce back when it faces Malaysia today in the same venue while they will close their preliminary round match against Indonesia on Thursday.
The top two will dispute the gold on Dec. 1 with Division B 0-2 Goals set to fire off on Dec. 3 at the Miguel Romero Polo Facility, also in Calatagan./PN
