ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has intensified security measures across major tourist destinations in Western Visayas, with a particular focus on Boracay Island, as the summer season officially begins.
Boracay, a world-renowned island located in the municipality of Malay, Aklan, is famous for its white sand beaches, vibrant nightlife, and water activities. It remains one of the country’s top tourist destinations, attracting both local and international visitors, especially during the summer and Holy Week.
According to PRO-6 spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, all unit commanders have been directed to boost their security presence, especially in high-traffic areas such as Boracay.
“We have enough personnel to secure both local and foreign tourists in Boracay Island this summer. With more people expected to flock to the beaches, we are fully prepared,” Solis said.
The Boracay police force has also been instructed to deploy more officers during nighttime, particularly in anticipation of the Holy Week, when visitor numbers are expected to surge.
“We will increase police visibility and presence to prevent crimes and ensure the safety of tourists,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Regional Maritime Unit 6 (RMU-6) has also strengthened its security deployment in Boracay.
RMU-6 commander Colonel Juritz Rara said eight additional personnel have been sent to the island to support local units.
“While we already have personnel in Boracay, we’re sending more to enhance police visibility and to closely monitor the safety of our tourists,” Rara said./PN
