CAPIZ – A 68-year-old woman was declared dead on arrival at Bailan District Hospital after collapsing while casting her vote in Barangay Marita, President Roxas town.
According to the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO), the victim, a resident of the said barangay, suddenly fell off her chair inside the voting precinct.
CPPO spokesperson Captain Merry Chris Dela Cruz confirmed that the incident occurred while the elderly was in the process of voting.
A bystander immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before first aid responders arrived. Emergency personnel continued administering CPR while transferring the victim to the ambulance and en route to the hospital.
Despite the efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital by the attending physician.
In a radio interview, police suggested that the extreme heat may have contributed to the elderly’s sudden collapse.
As of this writing, authorities were still conducting further investigation to determine the exact cause of her death./PN
