BACOLOD City – A 75-year-old woman died after a truck hit her in Sitio Ulalod, Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
Police said the victim identified as Norma Dagnao, a resident of the area, was reportedly crossing the street when she was struck by a Fuso truck driven by 48-year-old Hadjie Ortiaga of Barangay Tiling, Cauayan town, around 7:58 p.m. on Sunday, July 27.
The initial investigation by the Kabankalan City Police Station revealed that the driver failed to notice Dagnao in time. He reportedly attempted to brake but was unable to stop the truck before it hit the elderly pedestrian.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The truck driver voluntarily surrendered to authorities. He is currently under police custody pending appropriate legal action. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
