Silay City farmer yields illegal gun, ammunition

NEGROS Occidental — A 51-year-old farmer was arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in a raid in Hacienda Hinalinan, Barangay Guimbalaon, Silay City on Wednesday, October 8.

Officers of the Silay City Police Station apprehended alias “Tabing”, a resident of the said place, through the strength of a search warrant issued by Executive Judge Dyna Doll Chiongson-Trocio of the Regional Trial Court – Branch 69.

Recovered from the suspect were the following:

* one unit of 12-gauge magazine-fed Shooters shotgun;

* one magazine; and

* two rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition.

Silay City police said the suspect failed to present legal documents authorizing firearm ownership.

The said weapon will undergo ballistic examination at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial’s Forensic Unit, while the suspect is now in police custody pending charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).

Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay, director of the Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), commended the operating unit for their precision and adherence to proper procedure, emphasizing that such operations are vital in maintaining community safety.

“Loose firearms pose a persistent threat to public safety. Our mission is to ensure that every unlicensed weapon is accounted for and those possessing them illegally are held responsible,” Ibay added./PN
