SilkAir inaugurates Singapore-Kalibo, vice versa flight

FIVE years of waiting and finally, the flight from Singapore to Kalibo and vice versa has been materialized through the efforts of SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines.

On May 27, a special launch ceremony was held to celebrate the arrival of the maiden flight of SilkAir from Singapore.

Arrived at Jaime Cardinal Sin International Airport in Kalibo, Aklan at 1:45 P.M., the MI599 circular flight from Singapore-Kalibo-Cebu-Singapore maiden flight carries 78 passengers including SilkAir’s Chief Executive Officer, Leslie Thng.

In his speech during the inaugural ceremony, Thng said they are looking forward to bringing more customers to enjoy the beauty and diversity Aklan offers by providing the highest quality of service.

“Rest assured, on SilkAir, customers will have a full-service experience in the comfort of business and economy class cabins,” he said.

“SilkAir is definitely committed to growing the demand for travel between Kalibo and Singapore,” he added.

He also acknowledged the support of the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Aklan provincial government.

“With this launch to Kalibo, we look forward to working closely with our many industry partners to promote the splendor and attractions of this destination, aside from the island of Boracay,” he noted.

Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo expressed her gratitude to SilkAir for choosing Aklan as one of its destinations.

On his part, DOT Asst. Secretary Arturo Boncato Jr. said Kalibo is indeed a good choice for SilkAir seeing as Aklan is one of the top destinations in the country. He extended his congratulations to SilkAir for having a meaningful expansion in the Philippines.

Kalibo is SilkAir’s third destination in the Philippines after Cebu and Davao, making it the 46th destination of the airlines in 12 countries.

SilkAir’s flight to Kalibo will be operating thrice a week, departing to Singapore every Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It leaves Singapore at 10 A.M. and arrives in Kalibo at 1:45 P.M., while the return flight leaves Kalibo at thee in the afternoon and lands in Singapore at 8:10 P.M./PN
