ILOILO – Singapore is exploring Iloilo’s potential as a source of high-quality agricultural products while offering advanced technology solutions in water management, flood control, and waste-to-energy systems, following talks between Singaporean Ambassador to the Philippines Constance See and Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.

During a courtesy visit to the provincial capitol, Ambassador See cited her country’s heavy reliance on imported food and the strong demand in Singapore for premium chicken, eggs, fruits, and vegetables.

She noted that Iloilo could meet this demand if it complies with Singapore’s strict international food safety and quality standards.

“Iloilo is primarily known for its rich agricultural landscape, and we take pride in that identity. The exciting prospect is that Iloilo Province is a blank canvas, poised for growth and development,” Defensor said, affirming the province’s readiness to adopt new farming practices to boost production.

Ambassador See also highlighted Singapore’s expertise in cutting-edge technologies, presenting possible applications for Iloilo’s development needs. She invited provincial officials to Singapore for educational tours to witness these innovations firsthand and explore how they could be adapted locally.

Beyond trade and technology, she underscored the cultural connection between the two regions, recalling the 2013 Cannes-winning film Ilo Ilo which resonated with Singaporeans and portrayed a deeper understanding of Filipino heritage.

Provincial Administrator Raul Banias and Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions (LEDIP) Center OIC Aulynn Yue Sin also attended the meeting, which both sides described as a step toward stronger bilateral ties and collaborative growth./PN
