A SMOKE incident occurred at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 1 on Monday afternoon due to a defective power bank, said the New Naia Infra Corp. (NNIC).
According to the NNIC, the incident occurred at around 4:55 p.m., after smoke was observed emanating from the baggage carousel.
Emergency response teams were dispatched to the area, with passengers guided away from the location as a precaution.
“The area was secured, and ventilation measures were implemented to disperse the smoke,” the NNIC said.
It was by 5:18 p.m. when responders identified a faulty power bank as the source of the smoke.
The NNIC said that it was likely broken after falling from a passenger’s luggage into the carousel system.
“There was no open flame, and the carousel remained fully operational after testing,” the NNIC said. “Cleanup of the area was completed shortly after, and terminal operations continued without disruption.”
No injuries or damage to airport facilities were then recorded due to the incident. (Zacarian Sarao © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
