BACOLOD City – The city government has installed a solar power generation system to 15 barangays as its contribution to energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The solar energy project has so far been implemented in the following barangays:
* Alijis – 40 kilowatts (KW)
* Taculing – 150 KW
*Granada – 80 KW
* Villamonte – 50 KW
* Vista Alegre – 120 KW
* Singcang Airport – 40 KW
* Tangub – 40 KW
* Estefania – 40 KW
* Pahanocoy – 40 KW
*16 – 40 KW
* Handumanan – 40 KW
* Punta Taytay – 40 KW
* Cabug – 40 KW
* Felisa – 40 KW
* Sum-ag – 140 KW
Aside from these 15 barangays, the project was first installed at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) in Barangay Villamonte for 400 KW.
The total capacity of the solar power system is 1,340 KW. The project is expected to generate significant energy savings for the city, with each barangay projected to save around 50 percent on their energy costs.
In total, the projected energy savings amount to approximately P14,974,252.32 per year, providing not only economic benefits but also contributing to the city’s commitment to renewable energy and reducing its carbon footprint.
The solar energy project further reflects Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez administration’s focus on sustainable development and cost-effective solutions for the city’s energy needs.
The fund for the said project was sourced out from the P4.1-billion loan of the city government from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), according to Engr. Loben Ceballos, officer-in-charge of the City Engineer’s Office./PN
