ILOILO City – A member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) shot himself at the compound of their Forward Service Support Unit (FSSU) in Barangay Veterans Village, City Proper.
Staff Sergeant Bernardino Divino, 51, of Passi City and a FSSU driver died of a gunshot wound on his head.
The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Divino was at the parking area of the FSSU.
He used an M16 armalite rifle, said Chief Inspector Alexander Rosales, Police Station 1 chief.
Divino was alone at the parking area, Rosales said.
The soldier appeared to have marital problems, a Panay News source said.
Days before the incident, Divino had a misunderstanding with his wife, said the source.
The wife reportedly threatened to complain about her husband’s alleged philandering to the AFP higher command.
The FSSU is under the direct supervision of the higher headquarters of the Philippine Army Support Command./PN
