South Korea-bound plane returns to Kalibo due to power bank

AKLAN – An airplane that was heading for South Korea returned to the Kalibo International Airport in this province because of a power bank that a passenger placed in the check-in baggage.

In a Super Radyo Kalibo report on May 5, the passenger disclosed that a power bank supposedly handcarried was placed instead in the check-in baggage.

After about an hour in flight, the airplane returned safely to the Kalibo airport. The passenger’s baggage was taken out immediately where the power bank was placed.

Due to the incident, the airport management has again reminded travelers to follow rules and regulations religiously so as to avoid compromising the flight and the safety of the crew and co-passengers.

In addition, the airport management underscored that the passenger should have disclosed at the check-in station all electronic devices being carried.

Last March, South Korea’s transport ministry implemented new aviation safety rules on carrying portable batteries following the incident on Air Busan which caught fire while it was about to leave an airport in Hong Kong. (GMA Regional TV News)
