KALIBO, Aklan – Due to the bad weather, 51 fishermen on board nine boats docked in the coast of Barangay Pook on Friday.
The fishermen were from Antique, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, and Ozamis, Barangay Captain Ronald Marte said.
Two boats docked at the Pook port while seven others anchored near the shore.
Forty-five-year-old Joeven Balungpas of Januiay, Iloilo said they encountered big waves brought by typhoon Gorio.
“We informed our respective municipal mayors through text to help us. We hope they inform the local government of Kalibo that we do not have bad intentions,” Balungpas said.
The Kalibo police inspected their boats and each fisherman underwent profiling.
Marte said they were told by police last week that some boats from Mindanao are coming to Visayas.
“This is the reason that we are watching our coastal areas,” Marte said.
Police found no contraband items during the inspection. The boats were carrying fishing nets and containers.
The fishermen will be allowed to return to their boats and escorted out of the municipal waters once the weather improves, police said./PN
