MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is scheduled to visit Washington, D.C. from July 20 to 22, 2025, as the Philippines seeks to deepen its strategic alliance with the United States and Japan amid growing regional tensions and expanding economic cooperation.
The Palace confirmed the visit on Friday, with Presidential Communications Office’s Undersecretary Claire Castro stating that the Department of Foreign Affairs will disclose the details of the President’s itinerary, including his agenda and engagements.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio first mentioned the upcoming visit in an interview during the ASEAN Regional Forum Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the US-Philippines-Japan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“We have a great relationship with Japan and the Philippines, and work very closely with them on the economic corridor, on maritime security, and territorial integrity,” Rubio said.
“We continue to build upon that partnership and look forward to hosting the President of the Philippines in Washington in a few days,” he added.
While Malacañang has confirmed the trip’s schedule, the US government has yet to release a formal announcement on the dates and full agenda.
“We can say that according to Secretary Rubio, it will be soon and in Washington, but no dates have been announced, nor has any agenda,” said Glenda Wallace, acting spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Manila.
Marcos last traveled to Washington in April 2024 to attend the inaugural US-Philippines-Japan Trilateral Summit — a milestone event that jumpstarted the Luzon Economic Corridor, an infrastructure-driven initiative aimed at expanding trade and industrial connectivity in Luzon./PN
