ILOILO City – A group of students was caught on video recklessly climbing the fence along the center island of Diversion Road in Mandurriao district before darting across the busy thoroughfare on Friday, August 15.
The incident, which quickly spread online, has raised safety concerns as vehicles were seen speeding past while the students crossed.
Mayor Raisa S. Treñas confirmed that the students involved have already been identified.
The mayor has instructed the POSMO to coordinate with the school of the students for disciplinary action and orientation.
“Ginmando ko man sa head sang aton POSMO nga makig-coordinate sa ila eskwelahan para ma–lecturan sang insakto nga disiplina kag mahatagan sang impormasyon parte sa peligro sang ila ginhimo,” she stressed.
Treñas warned the public against similar actions, reminding that Diversion Road is a high-risk area for pedestrians.
“We remind our students and the general public nga ang Diversion Road isa ka major thoroughfare nga peligroso para sa mga nagalakat. We urge everyone to use pedestrian lanes, overpass, and designated crossings para malikawan ang aksidente kag masiguro ang safety sang tanan,” she said.
The mayor assured that the city government is continuously strengthening road safety measures but emphasized that public cooperation is vital.
