Sun Yat Sen holds reg’l table tennis tourney

ILOILO City – Sun Yat Sen High School staged a regional table tennis tournament from June 27 to 29.

A total of 130 players from 15 school-based teams across Western Visayas joined.

Held at the Sun Yat Sen High School New Auditorium and SM City Iloilo, the tournament had three categories – 12 years old and under (girls), 12 years old and under (boys) and team play.

In the 12-under girls, Jade Delariarte of Dumangas, Iloilo emerged the champion.

Second placer was Levee Marie Olivia of Guimbal, Iloilo and third placer was Leslie Ann Tamayo of Dumangas.

Kiana Marie Bonilla of Central Philippine University (CPU) was in the fourth place.

For 12-under boys, Antique’s Perry Art Lorenz Zaldivar was declared the champion. Fellow Antiqueño Josh Joel Tanchuan was in second place.

Jedaiah Rey Labrador and Arche Balibol, both representing the 5th District of Iloilo, were the third and fourth placers, respectively.

For the team play category, Royal Paddle Club of Bacolod City dominated its rivals.

Iloilo Sun Yat Sen High School (Blue Lion) was the second placer and Antique Table Tennis Association (Binirayan), the third placer.

Antique Table Tennis Association (Team A) was on the fourth place.

Arnel Lanaria, the tournament’s main man, said the competition’s objective was to identify talents and encourage athletes to further develop their skill for national and international events.

Backing the event were the Sun Yat Sen High School Alumni Association, Sun Yat Sen High School Sports Association, Table Tennis Association of the Philippines, Iloilo City Government, ABS-CBN Iloilo, Smart Communication, and Iloilo Table Tennis Enthusiasts for Development Association./PN
