‘Support for Mar snowballs’

BACOLOD City — Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas has not yet confirmed his reported plan to run for president in the 2016 national election.

In spite of this, Roxas is gaining supporters from local government chief executives in Negros Island, according to Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.

Marañon revealed he will personally support Roxas once he seeks the presidency.

The governor said some city and municipal mayors are joining him.

“Their perception is Mar (Roxas) is from Negros and, when he wins as President, we can proudly call him as our own,” he said.

Marañon, however, refused to reveal how many mayors are supporting Roxas.

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and his vice governor, Mark Macias, have declared that they will support the presidential bid of Roxas.

Marañon said Roxas came from a respected political family.

His grandfather, the late President Manuel Roxas, was “brilliant, although he died young,” said Marañon.

“Mar (Roxas) has no record of corruption in his years in government” and has a “proven track record,” he said.

“He may have his faults, [but] he is only human,” said the governor./PN
