ILOILO City – The suspect in the death of an elementary school teacher in the component city of Passi in Iloilo province was caught.

Police arrested the 34-year-old June Aguilar in Barangay Agtabo, Passi City at around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The resident of Barangay Gemumua-agahon, Passi City was accused of sexually assaulting and killing Ma. Corazon Tionson.

Tionson, a 55-year-old Grade III teacher at the Gemumua-agahon Elementary School, was found dead on Oct. 15.

She had two stab wounds on the body and a wound on the head believed inflicted using a hard object. Investigators discovered she was also raped.

Police had earlier suspected that Aguilar was out to rob Tionson.

Investigators had found her house in disarray and learned that her loan application has recently been approved.

There was a laceration on the sex organ of the victim, indicating that she had been sexually assaulted before she was slain, the Police Regional Office 6’s Crime Laboratory found in an autopsy.

Investigators used witness accounts and pieces of evidence found in a nipa hut he owned to tag Aguilar to the crime, according to Superintendent Arturo Fullero, Passi police chief.

Someone saw Aguilar with a bloodstain on his T-shirt, said Fullero.

Police later found a bloodstained T-shirt, a bloodstained hammer, and a necklace of the victim in the suspect’s nipa hut, he said, adding that some jewelry items owned by Tionson have gone missing.

Fullero previously said Aguilar was detained for a murder change but has been out on parole./PN
