Teen pregnancy cases in Antique double in second quarter

ANTIQUE – The number of adolescent pregnancy cases in this province has doubled in the second quarter of 2025, according to data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

From April to June, the province recorded 498 cases of teenage pregnancy — more than twice the 240 cases logged in the first quarter (January to March).

Data from the Office of Population and Development (OPPO) revealed that six cases involved girls aged 10 to 14, with three from San Jose, and one each from Tobias Fornier, Hamtic, and Laua-an. Meanwhile, 234 cases were among girls aged 15 to 19.

For the first semester of 2025 (January to June), the PHO confirmed a total of 498 adolescent pregnancy cases across the province, underscoring a sharp increase in numbers between the first and second quarters.

Among municipalities, Caluya recorded the highest number of cases with 83, followed by Sibalom and San Remigio with 50 each, Hamtic with 41, and San Jose with 40. Other municipalities recorded the following figures: Pandan (28), Tibiao (27), Culasi (27), Tobias Fornier (22), Patnongon (22), Laua-an (21), Anini-y (19), Sebaste (18), Bugasong (16), Valderrama (16), Libertad (7), Belison (six), and Barbaza (five).

In 2024, Antique recorded a total of 963 cases of adolescent pregnancy, with 935 involving girls aged 15 to 19 and 28 involving girls aged 10 to 14.

The PHO has yet to release the detailed age distribution for the first and second quarters of 2025.
