THE provincial government of Guimaras organized the “Tienda sa Kapitolyo” to help farmers sell their farm harvests amid the pandemic.

Thirteen associations participated in the agri-fair that benefited the livelihood community.

“We formed this bazaar to give an opportunity for the farmers to earn by gathering their abundant harvest here at the Capitol, at the same time, provide fresh and healthy local produce for the employees and other people visiting the Capitol offices,” said Guimaras provincial agriculturist Ronnie Morante.

Since its launch the other week, the farmers have accumulated a total sales of P29,325 out of their fresh farm produce such as vegetables, fruits, poultry, and other agri-fishery products.

Morante also cited that the province received an allocation of vegetable seeds from the Department of Agriculture Western Visayas as part of their Ahon Lahat Pagkaing Sapat Kontra COVID-19 program, which they have distributed to the associations’ members.

DA’s vegetable seeds have produced a bountiful yield and now available for market at the Tienda stalls, according to Morante.

Spearheaded by the Provincial Office for Agricultural Services, the ‘Tienda sa Kapitolyo sang Guimaras’ kicked off on Oct. 14, and opens every Wednesday from 7:30 a.m., near the Agri-Fishery Center, at the back of the Capitol Gym in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.(DA-RAFIS 6/PN)
