ILOILO – The provincial government has recognized its top real property taxpayers for calendar year 2024, hailing their crucial role in driving development in the province through reliable and substantial tax contributions.

In a ceremony held at Zuri Hotel in Mandurriao, Iloilo City on June 20, the Office of the Provincial Treasurer honored 40 outstanding taxpayers — 20 corporate and 20 individual payers — whose tax remittances have significantly sustained the province’s health, education, welfare, and infrastructure programs.

Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, speaking on behalf of Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., expressed deep appreciation to the honorees.

“Your dedication to paying the right taxes is not just a compliance with the law; it’s a profound act of support and belief in the progress of our beloved province,” Banias said. “Every peso you remit empowers us to fulfill our mandate and serve our constituents better.”

Banias emphasized that Iloilo Province, unlike cities and municipalities, has a more limited tax base and depends heavily on real property taxes. Because of this, the top taxpayers’ contributions have an outsized impact.

Under the leadership of Governor Defensor, who champions transparency and good governance, Banias assured that taxpayers’ money is carefully managed and strategically allocated to programs that directly benefit Ilonggos.

Among the key areas funded by the taxes are:

* Healthcare, with ongoing upgrades to provincial hospitals and public health services;

* Social welfare, particularly through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS);

* Education, with a significant portion of the Special Education Fund used to improve school infrastructure and learning outcomes, as well as to fund the Iskolar sang Iloilo Program;

* Rural infrastructure, where roads and other facilities are constructed or rehabilitated to connect communities and stimulate local economies.

“Your support is the bedrock of our provincial development. It allows us to dream bigger, plan bolder, and execute more effectively for the benefit of every Ilonggo family,” Banias added.
