Torrential rains, flood hit 58 brgys in Capiz, Negros

ILOILO City – A total of 58 barangays in Capiz and Negros Occidental provinces were adversely affected heavy rains and flashfloods on Monday.

Seven towns/cities in Negros Occidental and 10 towns in Capiz were battered while Bacolod City experienced minor flooding, data from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) showed.

A total of 9,228 families composed of 45,668 individuals from the 58 barangays were displaced.

Of this number, 4,425 families or 22,086 individuals moved to evacuation centers while others temporarily stayed with relatives.

In Negros Occidental, towns and cities affected by floods were Manapla, Escalante, Talisay, Sagay, Silay, Cadiz, and EB Magalona.

In Capiz, these were the towns of Dumalag, Cuartero, Sigma, Tapaz, Dao, Dumarao, Maayon, Mambusao, Pontevedra, and Panitan.

The city councils of Talisay and Victorias in Negros Occidental passed resolutions declaring their areas under a state of calamity.

The RDRRMC reported one casualty from Silay City – Marvito Lumanog, 43, of Barangay Guimbala-on, Hacienda San German. His body was found under the wreckage of his collapsed house.

There were power interruptions, too, while debris from fallen trees made some roads impassable.
