ILOILO – After Iloilo City temporarily banned all sea trips to and from Negros Island, this province is eyeing to follow suit.
Iloilo must go hand-in-hand with the city’s suspension “kay indi mo na karon mapuslan ang travel ban between Iloilo City and Negros Island kon dira ka maagi sa Dumangas port,” Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. told Panay News.
He said he has requested Interior secretary Eduardo Año to look into the request.
“Pag-ugyon lang naton ina sa Iloilo City… maayo gid siguro nga madungan kita (travel ban),” he added.
The governor, however, clarified that pending the approval of the National Inter-Agency Task Force (NIATF), Negrenses can still enter this province via the Dumangas port.
To note, the Philippine Coast Guard-Iloilo Station is set to suspend all sea trips like fast crafts from Iloilo City to Negros Island beginning 12 a.m. today until May 31.
Meanwhile, Commander Edison Diaz, Iloilo PCG chief, clarified that movement of cargoes won’t be hampered.
The suspension came after Iloilo City was placed under a stricter community quarantine classification due to the spike in coronavirus cases in the city./PN
