ILOILO City – Mayor Raisa Treñas has reduced the number of her executive assistants (EAs) to 21, trimming down the big roster of more than 30 during the administration of her father, former mayor Jerry Treñas.
The leaner setup is expected to save the city government millions of pesos in salaries and allowances over the next three years.
Data show the current batch of EAs receive monthly salaries ranging from ₱37,000 to ₱98,000, with two officials — Executive Assistant V Jose Espinosa III and spokesperson Mary Joy Fantilaga-Gorzal — earning ₱98,185 each.
By cutting down more than 10 EA positions, city hall could save over ₱700,000 monthly or more than ₱8 million annually, funds that could be redirected to other basic services.
The 21 EAs include former city officials, retired government employees, and ex-barangay captains tapped for specialized functions. Notable names are former city councilors Ely Estante Jr. and Candice Magdalane Tupas, and retired police colonel Leo Puertollanio.
The downsizing came after some appointments were not renewed and others were converted into Contract of Service (COS) positions, effectively reducing the city’s regular payroll obligations.
