ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas congratulated the re-elected and newly-elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials in the recently concluded elections.
The city mayor expressed support to the winners as they were chosen by the city voters.
“I congratulate all the winners in the barangay and SK elections. Now that our people have decided, it is incumbent that we all support all the newly-elected officials for the good of our barangays. Let us all unite for our barangays and our city,” Treñas said.
He also thanked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Department of Education (DepEd) for the orderly and peaceful elections.
“I thanked the Comelec and the DepEd personnel in Iloilo City for very smooth barangay and SK elections. There were minor issues but those were immediately attended to,” the city mayor added.
Jonathan Sayno, Election Assistant II of Comelec-Iloilo City, through coordination with the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), has confirmed on Monday night there were zero election-related incidents in the city.
There were only minor inconveniences, including a slow voting process in the first few hours and voters who had difficulty finding their names on the posted Election Day Computerized Voters’ List.
Of the 180 barangay captains from the city’s seven districts – City Proper, Jaro, Molo, Lapuz, Arevalo, La Paz, and Mandurriao – 30 were unopposed and won by default.
Among them were first-timer Dra. Julie Baronda of Javellana Extension in Jaro district and Liga ng mga Barangay president and incumbent barangay captain Ma. Irene Ong of President Roxas, City Proper district.
