ILOILO City – Mayor Raisa Treñas of this city has been tapped to lead Western Visayas’ economic policymaking as chairperson of the Economic Development Committee (EDC) under the Regional Development Council (RDC).
The appointment places the neophyte mayor at the helm of economic planning across the region, overseeing key sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, agrarian reform, science and innovation, trade, and tourism. Her leadership will be central in crafting development strategies aligned with both local and national goals.
The RDC serves as the region’s highest planning and policy-making body, composed of local government heads, national agency directors, and private sector representatives.
“I am greatly honored to be chosen as chairperson of the Economic Development Committee of RDC Region 6,” she said in a statement. “I see this as a bigger opportunity to help promote the region’s economic growth by pushing for programs that create jobs, support businesses, and attract more investors.”
Treñas also vowed to bring into the role the same collaborative and service-driven values she upholds as Iloilo City mayor: “As mayor of Iloilo City, I give so much importance to cooperation and quality public service.”
She added” “I assure you, my fellow Ilonggos, that I will carry those same principles into this new role with the goal of serving and helping everyone toward progress across the region.”
Treñas’ selection comes at a time when Western Visayas is prioritizing inclusive and sustainable growth, with the EDC positioned to steer the regional economy amid evolving national and global trends.
Mayor Treñas now joins other leaders in the RDC Region 6 executive structure, including:
* Director Juan Jovian Ingeniero – chairperson, Development Administration Committee
* Dr. Raul Alvarez Jr. – chairperson, Social Development Committee
* Engr. Nilo Jardeleza – chairperson, Infrastructure Development Committee
