
MANILA – Adamson University Falcons went on a furious fourth quarter run for a come-from-behind 78-71 win over the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers in the UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Down by double figures at the onset of the final frame, the Falcons rode on consecutive points from Valandre Chauca to surge his team on top 72-71 with under a minute remaining.
The Falcons managed to add up to the advantage with Jerrick Ahanmisi scoring a layup from a turnover and free throws from him and Jerome Lastimosa for its biggest lead at 78-71.
Chauca finished the match with 18 points, eight assists and six rebounds, while Ahanmisi had a game long brilliance of 24 points. With the win, the Falcons tied the Tigers with 3-2 win-loss slate.
Meanwhile, University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons surged to solo second place in the standings after surviving another close call against the National University Bulldogs, 80-79.
Holding to a 78-71 edge with over two minutes left, the Maroons were rattled by the Bulldogs’ furious run to cut the deficit to 79-80. NU had a chance to snatch the win but John Lloyd Clemente’s 15-foot jumper was way short as the final buzzer sounded.
Kobe Paras tallied 25 points, six rebounds, and two assists, while Bright Akhuetie got himself a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Maroons moved up to 3-1./PN
