
ILOILO City – From today until Saturday, the road from the U-turn slot near Robinsons’ Place Pavia in Barangay Ungka II, Pavia, Iloilo to City Mall will be closed to traffic for the installation of the final batch of girders on the 453.70-meter flyover.
“We will install 16 girders (covering two spans) including sang housekeeping. Two spans na lang nabilin para makumpleto ta ang 136 girders sa kabilogan,” said Assistant Director Al Fruto of the Department of Public Works and Highways in an interview with Panay News.
The closure will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Nagapangayo kita sa pag-intindi sa aton mga motorista,” Fruto said.
Motorists are advised to take the following alternate routes:
(From Santa Barbara and Pavia to Iloilo City)
* Pagsanga-an Road – Barangay Tacas – Barangay Quintin Salas – Jaro Plaza
* Pagsanga-an Road – Barangay Tacas – Barangay Buhang – Jaro Plaza
* Pavia – Barangay Jibao-an (Bga. Singko) – Mandurriao
* Aganan Pavia Railway – Ungka II Pavia Railway – Iloilo Circumferential Road – Ungka Terminal – Jaro Plaza
(From Iloilo City to Santa Barbara)
* Jaro – Barangay Quintin Salas – Barangay Tacas – Pavia Road
* Jaro – Barangay Buhang – Barangay Tacas – Pavia Road
* Jaro – Mandurriao – Barangay Jibao-an (Bga. Singko) – Barangay Aganan – Pavia
The installation of the girders is in preparation for project contractor International Builders Corp. (IBC) to start decking.
In March this year, a temporary closure was also enforced from the U-turn slot near the exit of Christ the King memorial park in Barangay Ungka, Jaro district up to the intersection.
A total of 64 girders were completely installed in May. Decking there was ongoing.
The actual construction of the flyover (including the approaches, protection and right of way) began in January 2020 and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2022.
DPWH also gears up for road widening in Ungka, where from two lanes, it plans to make it four lanes (two lanes on both sides)./PN
