THIS IS a kind of written vignette so it will be short.
The events in the United States of America this June 2025 are far different from the 1986 EDSA event.
EDSA
I can attest to this because I was there in person all throughout the three-day event. I was also a few meters in front of a tank in Ortigas Avenue.
I was a young fool of a college student then, not expecting to put my life in hazard. Nevertheless, I have never regretted the experience as I believed I was fighting for a just cause.
But first, in videos from the USA, what do you and I see?
US EVENTS
Some dozens or a few hundreds of dedicated protesters in each event. Tires burning. Private vehicles being blocked. Private vehicles being burned. Vulgar vandalism written everywhere. Private shops getting smashed.
Looters getting in and stealing as much as they can. Rioters throwing rocks and what have you on police. Protesters placing children as human shields. Protesters verbally insulting and pushing police and soldiers.
Wannabe virtue-signaling “revolutionaries” shouting and blocking mere police cars. No real heart-stopping fear, just adrenaline rush and hate.
At EDSA (more popularly known as the 1986 EDSA Revolution), tens of thousands of dedicated protesters in each event, perhaps even more than a hundred thousand people (EDSA from Camp Crame to Ortigas filled with people).
No tire burning. No private vehicles being blocked. No private vehicles being burned. No vulgar vandalism written anywhere.
No private shops getting smashed. No looters getting in and stealing as much as they can. No rioters throwing rocks and what have you on the Philippine Marines. People respected SWAT teams from the Philippine Constabulary.
No protesters placing children as human shields. No protesters verbally insulting Marine soldiers.
Non-violent protesters risking their lives by blocking real live tanks. Real heart-stopping fear that you’re going to die when the tanks open fire on you.
