BACOLOD City – Around 100 residents of Barangay XIV in Victorias City, Negros Occidental now have another source of clean and safe water following the inauguration of a solar-powered water system.

The project was developed by the Department of Public Works and Highways through 3rd District’s Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez, who is now the director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

In partnership with the Victorias City Government, the project aims to provide the growing community with a clean, safe and reliable water supply powered by renewable solar energy.

Mayor Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez said the solar-powered water system advances eco-friendly initiatives of the city, describing it as “smart, sustainable and environment-friendly,” positioning Victorias as a model for water security and sustainable development.

He further shared his future plans for the water system to also be adopted at the New Government Site, other government buildings and barangay halls.

The inauguration on Friday, September 13, commenced with the signing of the Certificate of Acceptance by Mayor Benitez and Engr. Bennil Juele of the DPWH 1st District Engineering Office.

Following this, a symbolic turnover of the key of responsibility marked the formal handover of the project from DPWH to Victorias City.

Mayor Benitez, in behalf of the city government, and Victorias City Water District (VCWD) General Manager Abraham De Dios Jr. signed the Deed of Donation and Acceptance that formalizes the transfer of the solar pumping station facility.

VCWD Chairman of the Board Jose Ma. Valentin Garcia and his family, who owns the lot where the facility is situated, and City Engineer Mary Jean Majaducon witnessed the signing./PN
