
MANILA – Western Visayas will remain under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) for the entire month of May, according to President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday night.
He approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
For Iloilo City, this will be its fifth straight month under the lighter community quarantine status. On the other hand, this will be Bacolod City’s fourth.
The provinces of Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Aklan, Antique, and Capiz have been under MGCQ since June 2020.
As of April 28, Western Visayas had a total of 37,653 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases – 2,600 active, 34,217 already recovered and 836 dead.
Among the provinces, Negros Occidental had the most COVID-19 cases at 11,498, followed by Bacolod City with 7,600, Iloilo province with 6,863, Iloilo City with 6,348, and Capiz with 1,934.
Over the last 14 days, Negros Occidental had the most addition of COVID-19 cases with 1,662 new infections, followed by Bacolod City with 749, Iloilo province with 369, Capiz with 243, and Antique with 242./PN
