Why not have new faces in the Senate

PEOPLE are wondering why there are just a few family names running the country, in the Senate, to be specific. It is a merry-go-‘round every election; almost the same surnames fool the nation with promises.

“I do not believe that those in the Senate are really there to serve the Filipino nation. I believe most of them simply like power and influence I do not know of a senator who rides in a Toyota Avanza or a Vios,” said a sportsman.

“The vehicles they use are from taxpayers’ money. That is the wonderful world of politicians. They only know the brands like BMW, MBenz, Jaguar, Ferrari, and the like. While the rest of the Filipinos remain poor, they enjoy their privileges,” agreed the teacher.

“Do you think the come-backing names – Estrada, Legarda, Cayetano, Villar, Ejercito, Honasan – are vying for Senate seats to serve the nation? Oh, c’mon, tell that to the marines,” commented a lawyer.

“They are there probably to enjoy the privileges or maybe to protect their business interests and those of their friends. We might be wrong but why do they keep on coming back? Why not give a chance to others in this kenkoy country called the Philippines?” wondered the sportsman.

“This candidate Villar boasts of his so-called performance as giving millions of jobs to Filipinos. Of course, when he was the Department of Public Works and Highways head he needed a million people to do the infrastructure projects of Tatay Digong. It was Digong who gave the jobs, not him. Now he promises to give more jobs. Oh God, these people,” shared the banker.

“And this son of the ousted president fools the nation with his TV ad promising Trabaho Para sa Lahat. Truly this man is a joker. When he was filed a case, he got ill. When cleared of his case, he was as strong as a lion,” said the lawyer.

“And a come-backing lady promises the poor Filipinos with tablet for every student. Tablet? Samsung or Decolgen? Poor Filipinos, they get fooled with TV ads of candidates,” added the sportsman.

“Her brother is running for Congress in Antique province and many are amused since this brother could not even speak the local Karay-a dialect. Lawyer Fajardo is a friend and can deliver better,” said the banker.

“Now is the time to put in new names in the Senate. There is no guarantee the new faces are better but surely they have new and better ideas than these old nincompoops making the government their means of livelihood,” concluded the banker./PN
