ILOILO – In line with the Women’s Month celebration, the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 6 is recognizing the contributions of women to agriculture in Western Visayas.
It is staging a weeklong “Babaye, Ka-Agri: Women’s Month Agricultural Exhibit” at SM City Iloilo from March 1 to 6.
“Daku ang parti sang mga kababaehan…(in the) economy, employment, poverty reduction and food security,” said DA regional director Remelyn Recoter.
There were 382,000 women farmers and fisherfolk in Western Visayas, data from DA Region 6’s Farmers and Fishers Registry System showed.
Recoter likened farmers and fishermen to doctors, nurses and other frontliners during this time of pandemic.
“Indi naton paglipatan ang aton mangungoma, aton mangingisda agri-entrepreneurs. They are frontliners in ensuring food security,” said Recoter./PN
