Work as opportunity

“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something we love is called passion.”—Simon Sinek

BAKIT ba tayo nasi-stress?

Is stress a self-induced negative feeling and/or thinking brought by immaturity? Is it really possible to work hard without being stressed? Is a person’s level of stress related to his or her level of professionalism?

Some people, when they are in their 40s, begin to look back and count the number of years that have passed them by like a speeding car. Where have all the years gone by?

Posible ba ‘yon? Na mahal mo ang iyong trabaho?

I have seen it many times here in the Iloilo Hall of Justice: people working very hard it puts to shame those who are loafing around. What makes it even more impressive is that these hardworking people are not affected by the lazy attitude of others.

And one common trait why they have this urgency and high standard of work ethic is that they have definite goals in mind. Their goals are decades in the making, one goal connected to the next. The daily grind is connected to the weekly plan to achieve their monthly targets, which are all aimed at reaching some big goals that require years of dedicated effort and consistent outputs. These are the people who work with passion and grit.

Not only are they that productive; they are also very innovative and creative. They find ways to improve their work process and their over-all surroundings. They are that brilliant.

Nakamamangha ang mga taong ito. Masisipag, matatalino, at matatapang.

Here’s my take: The scenario of a person at work who is intentionally not working well is the most corrupt and damaging act of a citizen to his or her own country. We can say all we want about those greedy and evil politicians, but we can also point a finger to our own selves.

There is nothing wrong in pointing out the corrupt practices of others, but if the person who criticizes is also always late in going to work and wastes time at the workplace, it is somewhat hypocritical.

What does it benefit the community if its citizens are only good in demanding that others must behave well but they themselves are mediocre employees?
