ILOILO City – Councilor Plaridel Nava urged the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) to file an administrative complaint against Barangay Captain Remia Prevendido Gregori of Bakhaw, Mandurriao district before the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP).
“…(S)o we can investigate and make our ruling at the soonest time possible,” said Nava yesterday.
A drug suspect that RDEU recently arrested claimed a son of Gregori was her supplier and she would at times remit the proceeds of her transactions at the barangay captain’s house.
The SP previously investigated Gregori and two other barangay captains – Keith Espinosa of Monica Blumentritt and Noemi Jablo of Desamparados – for suspected links to the illegal drug trade “but nothing happened”, said Nava.
This could be one of the reasons “why Iloilo City is still hot in the eyes of the President,” he said.
President Rodrigo Duterte called Iloilo “most shabulized” and “bedrock of drugs.”
“I challenge the police…if they are sincere in the fight against illegal drugs…we are here, ready and willing to impose disciplinary action to Barangay Captain Remia Greogri….(I)f we (in the city council) are not really bent on making our own moto propio investigation, I hope the police will take the initiative,” said Nava.
Gregori, sister of slain drug lord Richard Prevendido, had denied having anything to do with illegal drugs.
Nava cited an opinion that the Department of the Interior and Local Government has no power to discipline barangay officials and that such power is solely vested in the SP.
He urged colleagues in the city council to convene as an investigative body./PN
