ILOILO City – Echoing the admonition of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., Police Regional Office (PRO-6) director, Brigadier General Leo Francisco, warned police personnel across Western Visayas to refrain from soliciting or accepting gifts during the holiday season.
“Do not ask for sponsorship or accept gifts lalo na sa mga politiko kasi pangit. We have a budget for that. Kahit kusang magbibigay huwag tanggapin,” Francisco said.
The region’s top cop said PNP personnel soliciting for the Christmas season, either in kind or cash, face severe sanctions.
Solicitation by government personnel is prohibited under Presidential Decree 46, and a corresponding action will be imposed on any PNP personnel committing such a violation.
Azurin issued his warning since police forces will be simultaneously celebrating Christmas parties on Dec. 16.
Azurin also urged the public to avoid giving gifts in any form to the police.
“Let’s refrain from giving gifts because the police might get used to it. This is why we made it a point to release their bonus early. At the same time, I urge them to spend it wisely because that came from the government. It’s part of the appreciation for their good performance. Let’s not cross more than what we are entitled to, especially if these are prohibited by law,” he said./PN
