ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) reported zero major incidents across Western Visayas during President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 28, crediting successful inter-agency coordination and the public’s discipline for the region’s peaceful atmosphere.

Even with around 150 demonstrators staging permitted rallies in Iloilo City, the events remained calm and within legal bounds, according to the Iloilo City Police Office.

PRO-6 regional director Police Brigadier General Josefineo Ligan lauded the collective efforts of law enforcement, local government units, and civil society in safeguarding both public safety and the people’s right to free expression.

“We commend the peaceful conduct of all public assemblies during the President’s SONA. The right to peaceful assembly is part of our democracy, and we thank everyone for exercising this right responsibly,” Ligan said.

He emphasized that the region’s peace and order efforts extend beyond special occasions.

“Our duty doesn’t stop with national occasions. We continue our daily efforts to keep the region safe and secure for all,” he added./PN
