ILOILO City – A graduate of West Visayas State University (WVSU) in La Paz district ranked No. 1 in the June 2017 Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE), the Professional Regulation Commission announced on Friday.

Mary Angelie Cabañez posted a passing percentage of 86.20, leading the 3,882 passers out of the 11,176 takers.

The WVSU, on the other hand, ranked second in the top five performing schools (with 50 or more examinees), posting a passing percentage of 99.21. Only one out of its 126 takers did not pass.

Seven other graduates from the same university — a consistent top-notching school in the NLE — made it to the Top 10. Their names and respective ranks and passing percentages are as follows:

* Nechelyn Consular – No. 4, 84.80

* Alyssa Jude Montalban – No. 5, 84.60

* Joane Christine Pedrola – No. 6, 84.40

* Lourence Ann Garrido – No. 7, 84.20

* Julie May Suganob – No. 7, 84.20

* Darlyne Esposo – No. 8, 84.00

* Princess Meliton – No. 9, 83.80

Congratulatory messages flooded on Facebook, including one from the dean of the WVSU College of Nursing.

“The big news is after 24 years we have produced the 3rd Top 1 individual performer [sic],” said Dr. Rosanna Grace Belo-Delariarte, dead. “Top 1 individual performer, Top 2 performing school and 8 in the top 10! To God be the glory!”

Xavier University led the top five performing schools with a passing percentage of 100 percent. Bicol University – Legazpi ranked third with 84.47 percent; University of Pangasinan, fourth, 83.58 percent; and Ateneo de Zamboanga, fifth, 80.67 percent.

The Board of Nursing administered the June 2017 NLE in Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Pagadian, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, and Zamboanga cities. (Daryl Lasafin/PN)
