20 NegOcc gov’t employees sacked

BACOLOD City – The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental has laid off 20 job order and contract of service employees due to various infractions.

Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said on Thursday morning that the laid off employees were cited for tardiness, absences, and lack of dedication to their work as their respective department heads recommended.

The involved employees were disciplined multiple times before they were dismissed from service, added Diaz.

“We can’t just hire [people] out of mere compassion. Others who are really working will also be affected. They may think it is okay to be lazy and timid in the workplace. That is not the message the governor wants to send to employees,” Diaz said, adding employees have to prove their worth and their value and contribution to the organization.

According to the provincial administrator, terminating the employees was not an immediate decision. Instead, proper procedures were followed, evaluations were made, and reconsiderations were made.

The provincial government currently has a total of 2,000 job order and contract of service employees. (Watchmen Daily Journal)
