MANILA – Santa Clarita International High School Primes returned to the winning track in the 14th Mayor’s Cup Basketball Tournament in Dumarao, Capiz by beating CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights, 62-59.

Kim Rey Servando led the way with 14 points while Giann Paul Nahine and Frank Tono had 13 points apiece for Primes, which bounced back from a 57-64 loss to St. Robert’s Academy Panda Rockets last week.

“We really worked hard not to repeat our miscues,” said Primes head coach Rodel Camacho. “I am glad that my players showed that against CenterPhil but we still need to be consistent.”

Patrick Gain top-scored with 16 points while Mark Cleofas added 13 markers for Silver Knights, which suffered its second straight defeat on Sunday at the Dumarao covered gym after winning its opening-day match.

The Primes-Silver Knights game was a continuation of their match two weeks ago that was halted early in the third quarter when heavy rains rendered the court unplayable.
Meanwhile, Hua Siong College of Iloilo continued to hang on the top spot after a 78-53 win over Bethany. Jim Jimiera finished with 18 points for Hua Siong.
Hua Siong and Primes are now tied in first place with a 3-1 win-loss slate. Hercor College Junior Jaguars (2-1), Silver Knights (1-2), Panda Rockets (2-2), and Bethany (0-3) followed./PN
