Drug surrenderer shot inside house

ILOILO City – A drug surrenderer was shot by two armed men in his house in Barangay Sto. Niño Sur, Arevalo district on Wednesday.

Fifty-one-year-old Ludovico Araneta, bookkeeper of a construction company in Mandurriao district, died of multiple gunshot wounds at the Western Visayas Medical Center.

The shooting happened around 7 p.m., according to Police Major Edgar Anonoy, Arevalo police chief.

Two men wearing facemasks and helmets suddenly barged into the house and one of them peppered Araneta with bullets.

Araneta’s wife and two grandchildren were stunned.

The two men quickly left on a motorcycle.

“The victim appeared to be the sole target. His wife and two grandchildren were left unharmed,” said Anonoy.

The shooting could be work-related, drug-related or had something to do with the victim’s previous criminal cases (homicide, frustrated murder, murder), he added.

A suspected drug personality, Aranete surrendered to the police in 2016. He was then residing in Molo district.

As of this writing, the gunmen remained unidentified./PN
