Fire razes bus in Bago City

ILOILO – Flames engulfed a passenger bus at the National Highway in Purok Rosas, Barangay Calumangan, Bago City, Negros Occidental around 6:05 a.m. yesterday, June 26.

Driver Rene Galor Macabuyag, 35, of Barangay Calape, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental noticed that the bus was emitting smoke around 5:50 a.m., according to Senior Fire Officer 1 Reggie Juanola of the Bago City Fire Station.

Macabuyag immediately stopped the vehicle on the roadside while his conductor assisted over 30 passengers in getting off the bus.

The Ceres bus was plying the Hinigran-Bacolod route.

Juanola added that the fire, which lasted for about 15 minutes, started moments after the driver removed the vehicle’s battery.

As of this writing, the Bago City Fire Station is still investigating the cause of the fire.
