MANILA – De La Salle University Green Archers continued to rack up victories in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball leading to its elimination round face-off with the undefeated Ateneo Blue Eagles.

Green Archers routed National University Bulldogs 101-76 on Saturday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Cameroonian import Ben Mbala led the way with 30 points and eight rebounds. Ricci Rivero added 16 markers, while rookie Leonard Santillan contributed 9 points.

The victory was a huge morale boost for Green Archers (11-2), which will end its elimination-round campaign against Blue Eagles (12-0) on Nov. 12.

After a 26-20 lead at the end of the first quarter, Green Archers pulled away in the second on inside hits from Mbala to build a 47-35 halftime lead.

La Salle sustained its torrid shooting in the second half as Rivero, Bacolodnon Kib Montalbo and Jollo Go converted outside hits and a basket by Ramil Tero widened the lead to its largest at 25 points.

“We’re taking it one game at a time,” said Rivero. “After this game, prepare na kami for Ateneo. Every game siguro we’re getting better kasi sinusunod namin game plan ng coaches.”

Rodolfo Alejandro finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists while rookie Enso Joson added career-best 20 markers for Bulldogs, which moved to the brink of elimination with a 4-8 win-loss record./PN
