MANILA – Hercor College Junior Jaguars escaped with an 83-82 win over CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights in the 14th Mayors Cup Basketball Tournament at the covered gym in Dumarao, Capiz.

After seeing its lead trimmed to a solitary point, Junior Jaguars bucked down on defense in the final 10 seconds of the match to prevent Silver Knights from having a decent attempt on the basket.

Raffy Arguelles led the way with 18 points while Dale Lautrizo and McHermor Lerado had 14 and 12 points, respectively, for Junior Jaguars, which tallied its second straight win on Saturday.

Charles Sindol and Jason Sugatan finished with 13 points apiece while Jedrick Tigris and Lester Paraico had a combined 17 points for Silver Knights, which suffered its first loss.

Meanwhile, St. Roberts International Academy Panda Rockets tallied its second-straight victory by beating Bethany, 65-51. Kevin Barranco topped with 10 points for St. Roberts.

Hua Siong and Junior Jaguars are currently tied on top of the standings with a 2-1 win-loss slate.
Silver Knights and Santa Clarita International School Primes followed, both with a 1-1 record. Panda Rockets had 2-2 and Bethany, 0-2.

The 14th Mayor’s Cup Basketball Tournament was being held annually in Dumarao, Capiz as part of the Padagyaw Festival honoring Nuestra Senora delas Nieves./PN
