IT’S that time of the year again, every Ilonggo already knows by heart – when public transportation is rendered obsolete, when roosters shudder at the ungodly parade of fluorescent feathers, and when “Hala Bira Iloilo!” is pummeled into our psyche via our bleeding eardrums –  the Dinagyang weekend.

If you’re anyone worth following on Instagram, then you know quite well that the Dinagyang presents the perfect opportunity to jumpstart a career as a VIP-pass-slinging blogger.

Colorful and festive scenery to highlight your OOTD (that means outfit of the day, tita)? Check! Large crowds so you can be eyed and seen? Check! Events and parties you can boast about on social media? Check!

Now you may think to yourself: “I don’t think I have what it takes to be a blogger.” That’s not how a special-treatment-demanding “online influencer” thinks, besh. Anyone with an internet connection can become a blogger nowadays – even a single cell organism with pocket WiFi can become a blogger.

Read on, fledgling social media star, these are the tips you can apply this Dinagyang weekend.

Your OOTD

As the saying goes, why standout when you can blind pedestrians with your Technicolor getup.

The streets of the Dinagyang are not for subtle style, so throw out anything that has a semblance to casual fashion. The only way to go is loud prints and imposing colors. It’s go big or go home!

But of course, you have to be on theme. Tribal designs and Aztec prints are always in during festival season. And because long walks and revelry demand comfortable clothing, know that you’re free to let some skin show – this applies to both girls and boys.

Dinagyang also presents the perfect accessory for anyone wanting to standout: the tribal headdress. Borrow from one of the performing warriors to take your OOTD to whole new heights, literally.

Carnival your way through the streets of Iloilo – in your neon crop top and micro-mini shorts – your bits bouncing to the beat of the Child Jesus, Señor Sto. Niño.

Hashtag Overshare

A blogger knows how to shamelessly promote his or herself in any circumstance.

Now that you have your OOTD, it’s time to take the perfect festival pic to post on Instagram and make your followers drool.

Don’t be fazed by the proposal of Dinagyang organizers to shut down cellular phone signals during the two-day festival, you can always post on your social media once you’re out of the radius of the city.

Whole-body photos are necessary to fully boast your shining outfit. Know that there are numerous “blogger poses” you can lift inspiration from.

The most popular is the “tingin sa malayo.” ave a friend snap your pics while you look pensively to the sky, as if you’re already pondering your next OOTD.

If you have Colgate-white teeth, this next “blogger pose” is yours to master: the fake laugh. We’ve all done it before, maybe while interacting with not so funny acquaintances or flirting with a cute girl who likes to crack puns, the fake laugh comes naturally to the bloggers with most potential.

My personal favorite is the “kamot sa ulo.” The pantomime of those in deep thought or suffering from chronic dandruff, the “kamot sa ulo” pose is when you run your fingers through your hair while your designated photographer presses the shutter.

When you finally achieve that perfect pic, remember to pepper it with numerous hashtags to ensure more people can see it.
