MANILA – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is on “red alert” as response operations for the erupting Mayon volcano and the tropical storm “Basyang” are ongoing.
Executive Director Ricardo Jalad said they advised their Regional DRRMCs to take the necessary precautions as well as disseminate all advisories to the local level.
“Basyang” is threatening a huge portion of eastern Mindanao.
The Interior department ensured the relay of warnings and advisories to concerned local governments and directed the latter to undertake preparedness measures in accordance with “Operation Listo” protocols, said Jalad.
Meanwhile, the Social Welfare department prioritized the prepositioning of goods and equipment as well as standby funds for possible response.
“The public is advised to stay alert, especially in areas to be affected by the prevailing weather systems,” said Jalad.
“Residents in landslide- and flood-prone areas are advised to prepare and be vigilant at all times,” he added. (PNA)
