HIKING is one of healthiest hobbies anyone could choose to adopt. The fresh air and sun, aerobic walking, and up-close exposure to natural features such as streams, forests and mountainsides help to compensate for many of the physical and mental stresses or the work week. (Discover A Hobby)

Yet outdoor conservation organizations believe that there is a growing need for awareness campaigns to ensure mountain tourists and enthusiasts are aware of the pressures that these getaway spots are under.

To give back to these breathtaking nature destinations, Mountain Clean Up 2017: Mount Apitong is organized by Foxtrail Seekers, a mountaineering group based in northern Iloilo. The activity will be on July 8, 2017 and is in accordance with the 4th National Mountain Cleanup Day (NMCD).

The 4th NMCD is envisioned to live up to being an annual reminder to the public of the importance of having clean mountains. It involves a set of simultaneous activities organized by different groups that will clean up mountains and other natural areas in different parts of the Philippines.

Mountain Clean Up 2017: Mount Apitong is open to any mountain climber, hiker, trekker, backpacker, or nature advocate. It is a day-hike activity from 5 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Mount Apitong is located in Concepcion, Iloilo and considered ideal for mountain climbing.

From there, one can view the whole island, as well as see the horizon dotted by several islands and the beauty of the surrounding countryside.

Through this activity, one can get to hike to enjoy nature while helping clean up – a simple way of being socially responsible.
